Birchbox + Rifle Paper Co. April Box 2016 Unboxing & Review

After making a commitment to clean up my skincare and beauty routine, I never thought I’d ever try Birchbox. However, they recently released a Limited Edition Box called “New Naturals” and it features big name green brands such as One Love Organics, Tata Harper, RMS Beauty, and Ilia Beauty. For $59, you get a box of 8 products (7 full-size and 1 sample-size) along with a makeup bag, making the box value a total of $215!

Green Beauty: Look For Less

look for less

I often find myself torn between budget beauty buys and their more luxurious, stylish counterparts. A lot of green beauty blogs that I read tend to focus more on lux beauty products, which is great, but at the same time I do like seeing how more inexpensive brands compare in terms of performance.

Here are my thoughts on some of the more affordable green beauty brands:

I recently purchased the Honeybee Gardens Pressed Mineral Powder Foundation in the color Supernatural after reading several overwhelming positive reviews. You can get it at Vitacost for under $8 (!) and I think it is such an amazing find! It comes in a refill form so you will need to purchase a compact separately or you can simply put it in a z-palette. The same goes for their eyeshadows. It’s a great way to create your own eyeshadow palette without breaking the bank.

Zuzu Luxe/Gabriel Cosmetics is another great brand because it’s carried at so many different retailers and I like that you can test out their products in person at your local Whole Foods store. Every product that I’ve tried from the brand has been great so far. I’ve been lusting over their palettes, especially the Classic Palette – Platinum Collection.

The All Natural Face is perfect for the green beauty junkie on a tight budget. I have their Diva Stix, cream blushes, gel eyeliner, and eyeshadow primer. Since I don’t wear much eyeliner, I gave it to my mom to use. For someone who is extremely sensitive to makeup, she had no issues with the eyeliner and her only con would be that sometimes it doesn’t last as long as more conventional brands. She didn’t have any issues with the product transferring to her lid or moving around. It just seemed to slightly fade throughout the day. I’m sure it would probably last longer if she applied an eye primer before the eyeliner.

Burt’s Bees Lip Crayons are super affordable lip products (retail: $8.99) and easy to find in stores. This is another brand that you can probably find testers in-store to see how the colors swatch in person. They have great reviews from conventional beauty bloggers and places like makeupalley. My mom is a huge fan of these and I think they would make great gifts for family and friends because they perform well without all the usual toxic ingredients. Katey Denno is a celebrity makeup artist that uses a lot green beauty products on her clients and she has used these to create a variety of red-carpet looks.

Burt’s Bees Citrus Facial Scrub Review

I’ve been wanting to try this facial scrub since I read about it smelling like pumpkin pie and who doesn’t love the smell of pumpkin? I purchased mine at Target when they were having their 10% of everything sale during their identity theft crisis in December and it is a nice facial scrub that is gentle enough for sensitive skin. I also like the simplicity of their ingredient list, the only ingredient that might concern natural beauty purists is the “fragrance” that is listed toward the end of the ingredient list. However, I personally don’t mind it too much. The facial scrub is pretty affordable at $7.99 and it is carried at a wide variety of retailers online and in-store. I like to switch between my Acure Organics facial cleanser and this facial scrub whenever I need to exfoliate during the week.

Ingredients: Vegetable glycerin, sweet almond oil, almond flour, oat flour, orange peel powder, rosebuds powder, pecan shells, grapefruit seed extract, glucose (sugar), nutmeg powder, clove powder, organge oil, fragrance, rosemary leaf oil, glucose oxidase & lactoperoxidase (natural preservative), tocopherol (vitamin E).

It may not be the “prettiest” looking scrub, but it does smell quite yummy!
