As someone who reads a lot of fashion magazines, I wish more of them featured makeup looks with natural products. However, I have been noticing a lot more press for natural beauty products lately and it’s cool to see celebrities like Shailene Woodley and Miranda Kerr promoting products by RMS Beauty and 100% Pure because a lot of people just don’t know what’s in the products they use and how it can affect their overall health. They assume that what they’re using is safe, but as soon as they find out the truth about the toxicity of some of the ingredients, most people start to re-evaluate their consumption, especially if they’re conscious about their health.
According to Eco Diva Beauty,
“Since about 60 percent of what we put ON our skin (including makeup, lotions, fragrances, oils and balms) makes its way into our bodies, it’s smart to pick products with ingredients that aren’t potentially harmful. In the largely unregulated cosmetics industry—there hasn’t been federal legislation regarding beauty and personal care products since 1938, and the United States only bans or restricts 11 ingredients while the European Union has restrictions on 1,328—we have to be our own advocates by reading labels, asking questions and being informed.”
Whether you’ve made the switch to natural products or you’re still on the fence about it, here are some of my favorite makeup looks created with natural beauty products:
For a glowy, bronzed look (as seen on Olivia Munn), check out Katey Denno, a NYC celebrity makeup artist, who created this look using natural products including Kjaer Weis, RMS Beauty, Ilia Beauty, and Vapour Organic Beauty. You can find a detailed description of how she created this look on her blog.
How gorgeous is this spring ready look? While it may no longer be spring, it’s still a great look for makeup inspiration, especially for Kjaer Weis fans:
• Apply Kjaer Weis Cream foundation to well moisturized skin to even out the appearance of any blemishes or skin discoloration. If needed, layer on for concealer level opacity. We recommend using the Kjær Weis Foundation Brush for best results.
• With your fingers, using a patting motion, dab a sheer layer of Blossoming Cream Blush to the apples of cheeks.
• For lips, we made our makeup do double duty: To get the pinky-nude lip color seen here, blend equal parts Blossoming Cream Blush and your Foundation on the back of your hand and apply using the Kjaer Weis Lip Brush.
• Finally, to achieve this dramatic, yet simple eye, start by sweeping Cloud Nine Eye Shadow from lash line to brow line. Apply Blue Wonder Eye Shadow from lash line to crease, and blend into Cloud Nine, so the color “feathers” just past the crease line. Blend again, around the outer corner of the eye, so the color pulls outwards, creating a slightly cat-eyed effect. We skipped the mascara, but filled in the brows with a touch of Wisdom Eye Shadow.
