The Dr. Sponge Original Facial Konjac Sponge is a popular green beauty facial cleansing sponge that everyone seems to rave about. Think of it as the green beauty alternative to the Clarisonic. I’ve read several reviews about this product and was curious to try it out. What’s great about this product is that 1. It’s relatively inexpensive ($8!) and 2. It’s pretty easy to find (I found mine on Amazon).
Here’s a little background on where the sponge originates from:
For thousands of years, Konjac, an exotic plant native to Eastern Asia, has been used in Chinese cuisines and medicines for its healthy nutrients. This popular ingredient, now commonly used in food products and dietary supplements, is a powerful booster for beautiful skin because it is naturally rich in vitamins (A, E, D, B1, B2, B6, B12, C) and minerals. Now we infuse this ancient recipe with modern technology to create a revolutionary skin cleansing tool that serves as an all-in-one solution for various skincare concerns.
First of all, the packaging is super cute! The sponge comes in a small turquoise box with instructions on the back. The sponge itself is quite small but it’s nice because it fits easily in the palm of your hand. It also comes with a white string that is attached to the back of the sponge so that you can hang it out to air dry after each use. When you first open the sponge, you’ll notice that it is hard and rough in texture. However, as soon as you submerge it underwater, it slowly starts to soften and expand in size. You can cleanse your face with just the sponge alone or with your favorite cleanser. It is suitable for all skin types including for those with sensitive skin. It also lasts for at least 2-3 months under normal daily usage.
The instructions state that you should gently massage your skin in circular motions with your sponge for about 30 seconds. Then, rinse the sponge clean with water and let it air dry using the attached cotton string. I bought one for me and my brother to try out. So far, we really enjoy using the product and it makes facial cleansing fun! The sponge feels like a soft, little bouncy pillow for your face and after using it, I feel like it leaves my skin cleaner, softer, and smoother. I also have acne-prone skin, so I am happy that it doesn’t irritate or dry out my sensitive skin.
Lastly, there are a variety of different Dr. Sponge cleansing products and the green tea version is next on my wishlist. I highly recommend trying it out if you’re looking for a natural way to gently exfoliate and cleanse your skin. If you’ve tried any other Dr. Sponge products, please share your suggestions and recommendations in the comments!
